The collection contains production material, including manuscript and illustrative material for sixty-two titles published between 1953 and 1985, and for several titles for which publication hasn't been verified. Materials include a few corrected typescripts, but chiefly consist of studies and book illustrations, many with pasteup text and separations. This is a collection of an artist's working iles, and contains little ephemera.

Jack Kent wrote and illustrated about 40 children's books during his career and illustrated nearly 20 by other authors. He began his career as a free-lance commercial artist, created a comic strip "King Aroo" which was syndicated from 1950 to 1965.
