Alvin Tresselt was born in Passaic, New Jersey in 1916. He did a number of jobs to make a living during the Depression, and then after the Second World War started working in interior display and advertising. In the 1950s he began working as an editor. During the same period he wrote numerous popular and well-received children's books, many of which were illustrated by Roger Duvoisin. Roger Duvoisin (1900-1980), a native of Geneva, Switzerland, was an author and illustrator of children's books.
