The collection primarily contains autobiographical materials, writings, and personal diaries. Included is a long account of Wells's work with the New York Life Insurance Company; a booklet titled "The world, the flesh, and the devil"; poems; letters; a compiled autobiographical scrapbook; and publications produced by Wells. Of particular interest is a printed report of the Bureau of Community Publicity, 1911, which provides details on the operations of the bureau and its relations with various local booster groups throughout the northwestern U.S. Also related to the Bureau is a long letter to Thomas Vaughan, 1957, analyzing the organization's work. Wells's personal diaries (formerly designated at Mss 894-1) are legible and contain vivid descriptions of his activities while a student in 1880s and 1890s.
