General description of the collection: Consists of a memorandum written by John Slezak, Undersecretary of the Army, to Mr. George H. Roderick, Chairman of the Ad Hoc Committee on Army Organization on 4 January 1955. The memorandum contains Slezak's comments on the Secretary of the Army's 1954 plan for Army organization as it regards the responsibilities and powers of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics and the necessary adjustments to the duties of the G-1, G-4, and the Comptroller's Offices.

John Slezak's career was varied and full of accomplishments. He was born in Czechoslovakia, April 18, 1896. He came to the United States (U.S.) as a young lad and enlisted as a private in the Ordnance Corps during World War I. He received a degree in Engineering from the University of Wisconsin in 1923 and began a career in various machining companies.
