Received his letter of 3rd; has not a single friend in the mercantile line at Philadelphia of whom he can ask favor by Mery; entire unacquaintance with money matters prevents him from indicating any other source for advance of money; returns note from Marquis de la Fayette to Madame Astory and sends salutations.
