Oscar Forness photograph collection [graphic]. [1960s-1970s]

The collection consisted of eight albums that contained snapshots of Fargo, N.D. and Moorhead, Minn.The photographer attempted to capture storefronts and street scenes in the two towns in the 1960s and early 1970s.Particularly well documents are the business districts. In addition there are images of Fargo public schools, some churches, hospitals, and bridges over the Red River between the two cities. The advertising signs album includes many road and street signs as well as business signs and logos. The photographer liked to document the unusual and humorous. A 'natural disasters' album has images of the 1946 blizzard in Fargo, Chelsey Fuel Company fire, the 1947 flood in Fargo, the 1957 tornado and the Huntington Building fire. The final album contains photographs of the protests in Fargo during Vice President Spiro Agnew's visit. The same album also has images of the Fargo Fire Dept fighting a fire at the American Linen Supply Company.

Spiro Theodore Agnew (November 9, 1918 – September 17, 1996) was the 39th vice president of the United States from 1969 until his resignation in 1973. He is the second and most recent vice president to resign the position, the other being John C. Calhoun in 1832. Unlike Calhoun, Agnew resigned as a result of a scandal.
