Records of the Festival organization from its beginnings in 1939 until the departure of its first Executive Director in 1983. Includes subject, correspndence, and financial files from the Chairman of the National Peanut Festival Association to 1972, and similar files from the Executive Director, 1972-1983. Also includes photographic prints relative to the annual fair--publicity photos of booked acts, snapshots of fair scenes, and newspaper photographs of events and contest winners.

In 1938, Dothan, Ala., held its first Peanut Festival with Dr. George Washington Carver as the honored guest, to publicize and celebrate the chief agricultural product of the Wiregrass region. The 1939 celebration ran for 3 days and included a parade and beauty pageant. World War 2 forestalled fairs until the Dothan Jaycees revived them in 1947.
