Extensive correspondence mainly from hospital administrator and Aiken attorney Julian Bond Salley. Collection includes administrative, clerical, fiscal, and human resource related items. Materials re constitution and by laws from 1921, blueprints from 1922, and hospital closure and reopening during 1920s are also included. Files for the Relief Society include social service records, reports, and efforts to ease the sufferings of local residents brought on by the Great Depression. Other events of early 1920s include files re a "nurse scandal," concerning an alleged affair between a doctor and a registered nurse; a case re a doctor and veteran of World War I who was charged with opium use and larceny at a preivious hospital; and petition requesting removal of the head nurse. After the 1940s the Relief Society existed mainly as a charitable organization assisting those rejected by or on a waiting list for Social Service or Mental Health Benefits.

The Aiken Hospital and Relief Society was founded in 1917 by New York philanthropist Charles Oliver Iselin (1854-1932) and his wife, Hope Goddard Iselin (b.1868), who visited Aiken annually as part of the town's "winter colony."
