Photographs of the related Ward, Perry, and Dexter families, taken ca. 1858-1955. The majority of the photographs are portraits of various family members and friends, most of which are unidentified and were taken ca. 1858-1882. Among those identified are Amanda Atherton Ward; Catherine Dexter Ward Perry and her husband William Cabot Gorham Perry; their daughter-in-law Elinor Woodbury Seymour Perry; and various other members of the related Atherton family, among others. There are also a number of portraits of Civil War soldiers, as well as graphics of Artemus Ward (1762-1847), Samuel Dexter (1726-1810), and Catherine Maria Dexter Ward. The collection also contains three views of the interior and exteriors of unidentified Massachusetts houses. There are many Massachusetts photographers represented in this collection, including James Wallace Black, Samuel Masury, Mrs. H. F. Stuart, John Adams Whipple, and Silsbee, Case, & Co., all of Boston, Mass. Includes carte de visite, cabinet cards, and tintypes.
