Letter, 1799 June 28, Deerfield [Massachusetts], to Friend Lewis.

Letter written by Deerfield Academy's second preceptor offering a job of an assistant at Deerfield Academy for $15 a month with board included to a Mr. Lewis, possibly Thomas Lewis, a Yale classmate of Herrick's. The letter provides an early description of the original Deerfield Academy building (now Memorial Hall Museum) and provides more information on some of the earliest teachers. Mr. Herrick also describes the town of Deerfield and the state of Massachusetts.
