Tom Swope Collection : papers scorebooks 1910-1966. c1966.

Tom Swope was a sportswriter, spending most of his career with the Cincinnati Post covering the Reds. This collection contains his statistical worksheets on the Cincinnati Reds between 1937 and 1945; 1959 and 1961. Also included are his scorebooks, starting in 1910 and going through 1964. Games scored include spring training, regular season, All-Star and World Series. These scorebooks are annotated with attendance, weather, umpires and other various remarks. The pocket schedules range from 1921 through to 1964, American and National Leagues. One American Association schedule for 1941. Series II has photocopies of newspaper cartoons from the Cincinnati Enquirer, 1900 - 1911and the Brooklyn Eagle, 1922 - 1932. Cartoonists include Ed Hughes, Thomas Pap Paproski, Ted Carroll and Boddington.

Tom Swope started his career in 1908 with the Dayton Evening Herald. In March 1914, he went to the Cleveland Press and then Cincinnati Post in September 1915. He was elected president of the Baseball Writers' Association of America in 1940. He retired in January 1969 and died February 11, 1969.
