This series comprises records related to the administration of the training school associated with the Lutheran Deaconess Motherhouse and Training School, Baltimore Maryland, (BMD). These records were generated or retained by persons involved with the administration of the motherhouse and training school. Records date from 1895-1965 and include handwritten and typewritten business correspondence, lecture notes, course outlines, meeting minutes, grade records, student handbooks, school bulletins, course catalogs, promotional material, orders of service, and printed programs for consecrations and investitures. In addition to records related to the training school, there are also printed programs from the BMD's Life Service Institute. The motherhouse offered this institute annually as an extended open house for young women interested in the various career opportunities available for women interested in church work.

A training school for the deaconesses opened in 1901 the day after the dedication for the new motherhouse at the W. North Avenue location in Baltimore. The training school emphasized parish work, since the General Synod decided in the beginning to emphasize parish work as one of the ministries of deaconesses.
