Minutes of four county conventions of the Sumter County, S.C., Democratic Party: 6 May 1946, 3 May 1948, 3 Apr. 1950, and 7 Apr. 1952. Topics discussed at the 1946 meeting included passage of resolutions to urge the General Assembly to pass a "local option law by the next Legislature" to reduce "the traffic in alcoholic beverages (including beer and wine)"; endorsement of reelection of U.S. Representative John J. Riley; and rejection of a resolution submitted by James McBride Dabbs which proposed that "the rules of the Democratic Party should be so changed as to permit Negroes to vote in the Democratic primaries on the same grounds as whites," in acknowledgement of the recent Supreme Court ruling.
