Melanie Ann Safka-Schekeryk, born February 3, 1947, in Astoria, New York (N.Y.), is an American singer-songwriter. She is usually known professionally simply as Melanie. Her recordings have been produced primarily by her husband, Peter Schekeryk, her first appearing in 1968. She performed at the Woodstock Festival in August of 1969.
