Advance press release announced by the U.S. Maritime Commission (1944 September 14) concerning ten names assigned to Liberty ships. Vessels to be named for: Alexander E. Brown (1852-1911), Chief Osceola (c.1800-1838), Richard Halliburton (1900-1939), Samuel G. Howe (1801-1876), Granville S. Hall (1844-1924), Herbert D. Croly (1869-1930), Frederic E. Ives (1856-1937), Walter Wellman (1858-1934), Richard J. Hopkins (1873-1943), and J. D. Yeager (1869-1935). Release sent with a memorandum from the United Seamen's Service, Inc. to Miss Sidney, 1945 March 16. Concerns the ship, Herbert D. Croly.
