Two lectures delivered before the Cambridge Antiquarian Society. "May-day in merrie England," delivered on 8 Mar. 1897, concerns feasts celebrating the holiday, using information from poems and songs to describe historical scenes. Some poems and song lyrics are included. The lecture on rural festivities, delivered 14 Feb. 1898, draws from the poetical works of Cambridge poets Thomas Tusser, Robert Herrrick, and others concerning various festivals for Michaelmas, St. Stephen's Day, Twelfth Night, St. Valentine's Day, Shrovetide, and other holidays. Includes some poems and song lyrics and a typescript draft of the lecture program.
