Two hand-colored ambrotypes in one paper-covered wood case of Leverett Saltonstall (1855-1863) as an infant, taken ca. 1855-1856 by an unknown photographer. A tab attached to the velvet matting on Photo. 2.37a allows the mat to be pulled back to reveal the full ambrotype plate, which shows Leverett's father, Leverett Saltonstall (1825-1895) encouraging his son to look at the camera.

2 photographs : ambrotypes, b&w, hand-colored ; visible oval images 5 x 3 1/2 cm (sixth-plates), in one case 9 1/2 x 9 cm.
