Chanler family papers, 1815-1939 (inclusive) 1845-1939 (bulk).

Consists chiefly of correspondence among family members, especially between Margaret Terry Chanler and her parents Luther and Louisa Ward Crawford Terry; her husband; and some of their children. Also correspondence between the Terrys, between Luther and his brother James, and between Louisa and her other children; and correspondence of other Crawford and Ward relatives including Francis Marion Crawford, Julia Ward Howe, some of the Howe daughters, and Samuel Ward. There are also letters from friends including 37 from Henry Adams to Margaret Chanler; some letters concerning their professional activities, especially Margaret Chanler's book, Roman Spring; lecture notes and a commonplace book, 1883, that she kept; and a brief diary, 1900, of her husband.
