Turkish manuscripts at Houghton Library, 1437?-1855 (inclusive).

Holdings include individual volumes and fragments of Turkish literary and historical manuscripts, documents, and related material. There are poems with translations and commentaries, Perso-Turkish dictionaries and vocabulary, and prose writings of Turkish authors. Historical material includes an account of the battles of the prophet Muhammed, history of the caliphs, translation of Arabic chronicle, history of Turkish military conquests, and instructions for an artillery regiment illustrated with drawings. Also, Turkish calendar, made ca. 1846, for the years 1263-1348 on a scroll in a filigree case, and collection of articles on science. Turkish passports and royal orders, 15th century land regulations, and other documents are included in the holdings. Most of the material dates from the 18th and 19th centuries.
