Temple Stanyan letter from the Council Office in regard to a petition from Mathias Philp, 1742 December 13.

The collection consists of a one-page handwritten letter signed Temple Stanyan, 13 December 1742, inviting the Community Council to consider a petition of Mathias Philp to consider an October 1741 ruling in favor of Alexander Crawford. The letter was sent in an official capacity from the Council Office at Whitehall.

Temple Stanyan was an English scholar and man of letters, who served as a clerk of the privy council. Born in London and educated at Christ Church, Oxford, he held several positions before being appointed clerk to the privy council in the room of his brother, the statesman and minister Abraham Stanyan.
