William J. Trezise collection of Arabic calligraphy. [between 9--? and 19--?]

A collection of 132 leaves of Arabic calligraphy dating from the 10th to 20th centuries and representing major areas of Islamic civilization. The collection includes several illuminated Qurʼānic leaves, as well as examples of hadith, the life of the Prophet, works of philosophy and alchemy, and a wooden writing tablet from Nigeria. In addition there are 21 other items such as a Qurʻānic carrying case, a Hand of Fāṭimah, and lithographs by David Roberts (1796-1864).
