C. Day Lewis letters and poems, 1926-1971.

The collection consists of some seventy-five items, including thirty-two letters to Denys Kilham Roberts, circa 1926-circa 1944, chiefly asking for advice on publishing agreements. Also includes other correspondence, postcards, and manuscript poems, including eighteen letters on Chatto and Windus letterhead, 1948-1971, chiefly responses to prospective authors or about his own work, including to Margaret Stanley-Wrench, Melville Hardiment, and James Butt. Other recipients include John Montgomery, John St. John, Dear Ede, Dear Raymond, and the Author's World Peace Appeal; topics include his poetry, his trip to Russia, and responses to various requests. Poems include Cat and Lines from a work in progress. Also includes printed sermon preached at Saint Mary's, The University Church of Cambridge, 1968, with the title, The work of the spirit, the creative spirit.
