Warren S. Heald papers, 1859-1864.

General description of the collection: The Warren S. Heald papers contains letters written by Heald to his mother and brother from 26 December 1859 to 6 November 1864. In his letters, Heald describes the food and living arrangements in the logging camp and at Camp Owen Marshall. He describes the medical care, his duties repairing road and bridges, and the Battle of Chattanooga. Heald comments on the progress of the war, the 1864 election, radical Republican sentiments on the results of the war, and his perceptions of Southern civilians and Southern soldiers.
