Carte de visite portrait of Giuseppe Garibaldi, presented to Edward Lillie Pierce on Caprera Island in Italy by Garibaldi on 24 May 1869. The portrait is signed by Garibaldi and also has extracts from Pierce's diary of 1869 inscribed on the verso that relate to his meetings with Garibaldi. The carte de visite was taken in 1866 by Alessandro Pavia of Genoa, Italy.
