George Law Curry papers, 1848-1877.

Letters and related materials of a governor of the Oregon Territory. Most letters were written in 1855 and 1856 during the Rogue River and Yakima Indian wars, and while Curry was governor. Also includes some personal, family, and political letters, some to General Joseph Lane, and biographical materials. contains land certificate, 1860; and printed broadside containing a poem by Curry, 1841.

Joseph Lane was born in North Carolina December 14, 1801, and moved to Kentucky when he was three years old. At age fourteen Lane moved away from his family to Indiana. At the age of twenty-one Lane married Mary Hart Polly. The couple had eight children. From 1822 to 1846, Lane served in the Indiana State Legislature.
