Photographs taken by Robert Treat Knowles during his service with the Phillips Academy Red Cross Unit assisting the American Ambulance Field Service in France during the first World War, 28 Apr.- 1 Nov. 1917. The photographs, all snapshots, depict his unit's activities in Paris, Verdun, and other places, as well as scenes of war and views of French villages and countryside taken during Knowles' travels with his unit. There are also three snapshots of Knowles, taken by an unidentified photographer.
