His papers consist of biographical information; correspondence; sermons; legal documents; literary productions of Corpening and others; notebooks, pictorial items; professional files reflecting his interest in alcoholism, child care, education, juvenile deliquency, race relations, mental health/retardation and other social concerns; sermons of others; the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary; Temple Baptist Church, Durham, North Carolina; and the North Carolina Re-education Center (Wright School).

Julius H. Corpening was graduated from Wake Forest College in 1949. He continued his studies at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY. He was held pastorates of Baptist churches in Moncure, North Carolina, Durham, North Carolina, and Hampton, South Carolina In 1969, he came to Wake Forest University to head the Piedmont Church and Industry Institute, and as director of the Urban Affairs Institute.
