The fonds consists of textual records, photographs and albums from the early 1900's onward, maps of British Columbia, and items collected for display purposes. The records of precedessor companies such as Powell River Company, Bloedel, Stewart and Welch, H.R. MacMillan Export, MacMillan and Bloedel, and MacMillan, Bloedel and Powell River, include series such as Top Management, Finance, Timber Division, Industrial Relations, and subsidiary and associated companies.) The records of MacMillan Bloedel Ltd. include senior executive papers which include the corporate papers of H.R. MacMillan, G.B. Currie, E.G. Shorter, C.A. Specht, D.W. Timmis, L.G. Harris, J.O. Hemmingsen, G.D. Eccott, and R.L. Gillen. Also represented are the records of Corporate Research and Development, which represent the Powell River Company and MacMillan, Bloedel and Powell River material. Smaller portions of records of subsidiary companies, particularly those who began operations early, are contained in the fonds. In addition, there are narrative histories of early companies and wide variety of memorabilia associated with companies, people and places related to the network of MacMillan Bloedel Limited operations.

MacMillan Bloedel Ltd. traces its roots in B.C. to 1911 with the establishment of Bloedel, Stewart and Welch. In 1919, Harvey MacMillan, along with W.J. VanDusen, established the H.R. MacMillan Export Company to sell British Columbia lumber on the world market. In 1951, the two companies joined to form MacMillan & Bloedel Ltd.
