Norman Archibald MacRae "Larry" MacKenzie served as president of the University of British Columbia from 1944 to 1962. He was born in Pugwash, Nova Scotia. After returning from a brief farming career in Saskatchewan in 1913, MacKenzie enrolled at Dalhousie University and then joined the Canadian Army two years later.
