In this interview Betty Fischer discusses her role as a political activist in Tarrant County and in Arlington. She talks about the campaign to defeat the Trinity River Canal project, Representative Martin Frost's campaign, her efforts to register voters, and her six years as Tarrant County Democratic Party leader from 1982-1988. She also talks about her husband, Nile Fischer, and her children and grandchildren.

Betty Fischer is a fifth generation Texan whose great- great- grandfather, Captain John Tomlinson, formed the first Texas Ranger unit in the Columbus, Texas, area where he also served as alcalde. She also had a great uncle who died at the Alamo. Mrs. Fischer was born in Liberty Hill, Texas, in 1932 and grew up in Manor, Texas, about six miles from Austin.
