One manuscript stanza and six letters, 1831 Dec. 29 -- 1871 Jul. 10

One holograph manuscript stanza, and six autograph letters, comprising the William Cullen Bryant manuscript materials in the Carl H. Pforzheimer Collection of Shelley and His Circle. Autograph fair copy of the ninth stanza of his poem, "The Battle-Field," which begins: "Truth, crushed to earth, shall rise again...," 2 December 1870 (Misc. Ms. 1266). ALS to an L. M. Gardner, regarding Washington Irving, 12 December 1859 (Misc. Ms. 1379). ALS to Mr. Hinton, brother of the author Howard Hinton, who wrote School days at Mount Pleasant (1871), 10 July 1871 (Misc. Ms. 11). Bryant II and Voss misread the correspondent's name as "Austin," and could not identify the book mentioned, misreading "School days" as either "Seven days" or "June days." 3 ALS to Washington Irving, author, 29 December 1831-- 8 April 1842 (Misc.
