Mardis I. Thompson papers, 1947-1982.

This collection contains materials related to Thompson's interest in amateur radio. Included are logbooks of radio contacts (May 1947-August 1982), QSO cards recording contacts with radio stations (1947-1982), FCC radio operator licenses, Amateur Radio League certificates, newsclippings, correspondence, photographs of amateur radio group meetings (1949-1979) and artifacts related to his activities. Included in the correspondence is a 1943 letter of recommendation for Lawrence Lamm.

Electrical engineer in the aerospace industry and developer of the LAMM schematics for use in documenting aircraft systems design. Lamm grew up in Dumont, Iowa. He served in the Air Force and studied electrical engineering at the University of Iowa and the American Television Institute. He worked for Philco on projects for the Air Force and Navy Bureau of Aeronautics. After leaving Philco Lamm worked for the Douglas Aircraft Company where he developed the LAMM schematics.
