Papers and photograph, 1864-1880.

Letters exchanged between Samuel and Mary Quincy of Woodman, Wis. while Samuel was serving with Company I of the 43rd Wisconsin Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. Many of the letters were written during Quincy's training at Camp Washburn (Milwaukee, Wis.) and discuss training, waiting for pay, religion at camp, muster in, medical care, and homesickness. He talks about the reception his unit received in various cities while traveling South, hospital stay, and duty in Tennessee. Mary's letters discuss news from Woodman, weather conditions, news of the children, and the inconsistency of mail service to and from the Army. Also found is Quincy's listing in the muster rolls. The collection also includes an identified family portrait.
