This series comprises primarily typewritten business correspondence pertaining to particular legal issues surrounding the production and distribution of Lutheran Church Productions, Inc.'s (LCP) film Martin Luther. The records are from 1951-1969 with the bulk dating from 1951-1957. Some documents are in German. Subject matter contained in these records includes issues surrounding the incorporation of the German company created to produce the film, Luther Film Gesellschaft (Luther Film G.m.b.H.); draft contracts with RD-DR Corporation, the production company chosen to make the film; matters involving securing insurance against dishonesty losses suffered by LCP during distribution of Martin Luther; issue of whether or not 35 mm prints of Martin Luther were covered by insurance against physical damage; and legal issues surrounding the film's distribution as it was financed by restricted-use German marks known as "sperrmarks." Other subject matter includes court cases involving persons attempting to circumvent LCP's distribution process and show the film without LCP's permission; and a court case involving Luther Film G.m.b.H. and GEMA, the German performing rights organization.
