This series comprises records related to the production of the Lutheran Film Associates film, The Joy of Bach. Record types include typewritten business correspondence, meeting minutes, handwritten production notes, news releases, news articles and reviews, contracts, agreements, price quotes, photographs, slides, promotional material, press packets, brochures, posters, typewritten scripts, and film treatments. Records date from 1954-1996 and comprise three subseries. Pre-production, Production, Post-production This subseries includes records related to the initial idea for a film about Johann Sebastian Bach's life and those records generated in the production and post-production phases of the film. Records include correspondence and notes from meetings involving those who had previously worked on LFA's production of Martin Luther. This subseries also includes several of the preliminary film treatments and early drafts of scripts. Other records include those generated during the course of the film's production and post-production and highlight such issues as insurance coverage for the film, selection of actors and actresses, promotional efforts, transfer to video format, dubbing into other languages, and initial reactions from the press. Distribution/Broadcasts Records that comprise this subseries are divided by country and include all correspondence and agreements pertaining to the rights and use of the film The Joy of Bach for showing in other countries. These records are primarily correspondence and relate to the fees involved in granting licenses, shipping film prints, or making available for purchase a copy of the film. Additional Bach Projects LFA also had under consideration additional projects related to the life of Bach, hoping to take advantage of the increased interest in the Baroque-period composer. This subseries comprises preliminary treatments for a special titled Everyman's Bach, and an outline for a series comprising 13 half-hour episodes devoted to Bach's music and life titled, Jubilee, a Bach Festival.
