John Brougham letters, 1849-1878.

The collection consists of nine letters, seven of which are from Brougham to Colonel William A. Seaver, editor of the Buffallo Courier. The majority are written in 1878 regarding unsettled finances and the benefit in Philadelphia. Brougham writes also to My Dear Theodore about advancing tickets for Childs, Seaver and Brady for the benefit. The collection also contains a letter written by George W. Childs, an editor in Philadelphia, to Seaver with the message to "Do whatever you deem proper in the Brougham matter. So worthy a man should not lack what he needs, and I am glad to help along the good cause."

George W. Childs (1829-1894) was the founder and editor of the Philadelphia Public Ledger and a noted philanthropist.
