1933

The Lucius Denning Mills collection holds a typed copy of an unpublished manuscript entitled "Reminiscences of Pioneer Life" compiled by Mills. In it Mills recalls his family life in Illinois before migrating to the area around Garden City, Minnesota; living conditions in Mankato, Minnesota for the year 1854, the Dakota Conflict and subsequent mass hanging in Mankato; and the hardships and joys experienced by pioneers on the Minnesota frontier during the nineteenth-century. This collection also contains a Mills family history compiled by Lida Mills; a reminiscence by Edward P. Mills about his youth around Garden City, Minnesota; and a description by Rena Baker, a friend of Lucius's wife Marie Mills, of pioneering in Mankato when she came from Illinois in 1866.
