John Betjeman letters to Professor Bickersteth and essay, 1948-1966.

The collection consists of three items, including two letters to Prof. Bickersteth and a printed essay. Includes: 22 Jan. 1948, asking for help discovering the birth date of 19th century Scots poet William Renton, and praising Renton's work; 1 Feb. 1948, thanking him for help in his quest for Renton's dates, with more commentary on Renton. Also, printed broadside for the Book Collectors Fair, 14-18 June 1966, with a Tenniel illustration on the front and an essay by Betjeman on the verso, entitled Old Books.

John Betjeman was a poet, journalist, free-lance writer, architectural commentator, broadcaster, and television personality who was popular in England in the 1960s and 1970s and was active in the campaigning for the preservation of churches, buildings and landscape.
