General description of the collection: The William J. Jackson, Jr. collection contains letters written by Jackson to his mother, Mrs. William J. Jackson, Sr., from 1 August 1944 to 15 August 1945 with a photograph of Jackson enclosed in the 8 October 1944 letter and a news clipping enclosed in the 28 Jan 1945 letter. In his letters, Jackson describes his training, his duties as a trainer, communications with friends in the service, particularly "Amos" in the European theater, and military life.

Staff Sergeant (SSG) William J. Jackson, Jr. joined the Army in August 1944. He trained at Camp Robinson, AR with B Company, 105th Battalion, 76th Regiment.
