Eva Esfeld Deutsch photograph collection [graphic], 1905-1941.

The Eva Esfeld Deutsch photograph collection primarily documents the early years of Eva Esfeld and life in the Seattle Jewish community. It contains family portraits, including individual photographs of Eva's father, Max Esfeld, and her brother, Sol Esfeld. The collection also shows various activities and celebrations that took place at the Herzl Synagogue, including confirmations, Sunday school classes, and wedding anniversaries. Also documented are outings, mainly involving groups of young women, such as a visit to Seattle's Luna Park, as well as Settlement House programs, including an early sewing class and a dramatic production.

Eva Esfeld Deutsch (1896-1991) was one of four children of Max and Jenny (or Jennie) Esfeld, Polish immigrants to the United States, who settled in Seattle, Washington. According to his 1908 naturalization petition, Max Esfeld emigrated from Poland to the United States, arriving in Galveston, Texas in 1904.
