Harry L. Levy was born in New York City in 1906, and received his bachelor of arts degree from City College of New York, and masters and doctoral degrees from Columbia University. He was a professor and dean of students at Hunter College, dean and vice-chancellor of the City University of New York, professor of the humanities at Fordham University, and visiting professor of classical studies at Duke University.
