Chester William Roemmelt Papers, 1917-1977.

The collection includes publications, 1917 and 1940-1945, primarily field and technical manuals related to Chester Roemmelt's World War II service. There are papers and photographs, 1917-1977, relating to his time at Norwich University and which also reflect some of Roemmelt's other interests, including Morgan horses and the Louisville, KY, flood of 1937. Several hand-colored photographs are included from Roemmelt's time at Norwich. Also included are five photographs taken and signed by Margaret Bourke-White in the 1930s.

Originally from Pittsburgh, PA, Chester W. Roemmelt graduated with the Norwich University class of 1922. During his time at Norwich, he was a member of the track and fencing squads as well as the dramatic club. Following his graduation, Roemmelt held a commission in the U. S. Army Reserve and served in the Cavalry from 1923 to 1942. He was on active duty 1942-1946, serving at the Armored School at Fort Knox, KY. He retired from the Reserve in 1954 with the rank of major.
