Edward Page Mitchell correspondence, 1883-1923.

Correspondence, 1883-1923, much of it discussing reports or editorials in the New York Sun. Almost all the letters are addressed to Mitchell, with a few addressed to Charles Dana or William Laffan. There are a number from statesmen and public officials, including Theodore Roosevelt, Elihu Root, Maurice Francis Egan, William Howard Taft, and many others. A letter from Taft, dated March 27, 1911, discusses the situation in Mexico and the decision to send troops to Texas; it goes into some detail, and encloses supporting material. The collection also includes a certificate of Mitchell's appointment as a knight officer to the Crown of Italy, and a watercolor by Abigail Brown Tompkins, given in memory of Charles Dana.
