Business and personal correspondence, 1885-1910, including drafts of Seward's own letters. They relate to various insurance matters, include some opinions as to the characters of persons in the insurance field (often in response to queries from prospective employers), letters of recommendation, introductions, correspondence about his activities as chairman of the building committee of Union College (ca. 1900-1910), his financial interests in the Wilson Aluminum Co., Leaksville, North Carolina, several about a debt of Stephen C. Baldwin in 1892, some about the gold and silver question in 1893, the use of calcium carbide to make illuminating gas (1890s), and some discussion of Chinese affairs.
