Prince family papers, 1816-1916.

Prince family correspondence and papers, ca. 1816 - ca. 1916, mainly of William Robert Prince, his wife, Charlotte Goodwin Collins Prince, and their son, Le Baron Bradford Prince. William Robert Prince's papers (bulk 1816-1819) deal with his business as a merchant, and include many letters from Joseph Simmons and C.G. Morris, both of Charleston, S.C., and Miralla & Co., Havana, Cuba. Much of his trade was in beans, rice, oats, cheese, hay, apples, and similar commodities. Charlotte Prince's correspondence, ca. 1830 - ca. 1890, includes letters to her husband; her sisters, Lydia Collins and Anna Collins; and her daughters, Sephremia Prince and Charlotte Prince, as well as letters betwen them and other other members of the Prince and Collins families. Le Baron Bradford Prince's correspondence, ca. 1850 - ca. 1900, dates mostly from the 1870s when he served as New York State Assemblyman from Queens County, 1871-1875, and as State Senator, 1876-1877. Much of it relates to state politics, legislation, and patronage. In some letters to his mother and brother he writes of his activities and experiences in New Mexico Terrotory, where he served as Chief Justice from 1879, and Governor 1889-1893. There is also material relating to Edwin Henry and his family, ca. 1853 - ca. 1916, including commissary documents and returns of rations dated 1864-1865. In addition to correspondence, the collection contains accounts, telegrams, share certificates, insurance documents, and deeds and leases related to properties in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens.
