Correspondence, 1809-1848.

Correspondence, 1809-1848, consisting almost entirely of letters addressed to Spooner, with a few addressed to other members of his family. Some letters deal with his business activities and his work as editor and publisher of the Long Island Star, but most are personal letters from members of his family. The collection includes a long unsigned letter describing Spooner's death, and a letter of condolence about it. There are also several commissions, dated between 1810 and 1826, appointing Spooner to a variety of ranks in the 4th and then the 13th Regiment, New York State Artillery.
