Henry A. Stimson papers, 1858-1935.

Papers, 1858-1935, including notebooks, account books, and diaries. There are also two guest books and an address book belonging to Stimson's wife, Alice Bartlett Stimson. The collection consists of a Bible with annotations by Stimson; two volumes of notes on lectures by Austin Phelps, dating from Stimson's time as a student at Andover Theological Seminary; four notebooks, containing anecdotes, excerpts from his reading, etc.; a book of envelopes filled with notes for speeches, receipts, etc.; a record of baptisms, marriages and funerals performed between 1893 and 1932; and two account books. In addition, there are two boxes containing numerous smaller volumes. One contains fourteen account books, 1862-1935. The other contains 23 pocket diaries, 1858-1862, 1891, 1917-1935; the 1891 diary was kept on a European tour. It also contains a notebook with a chronology of Stimson's life, a clergyman's visiting list, a list of contributors to the Manhattan Congregations Church, 1900-1901, three address books, five miscellaneous notebooks, two notebooks belonging to Alice Bartlett Stimson, and a notebook recording Stimson's visit in 1872 to Ojibwa Indians at White Earth and Red Lake, both in Minnesota. Clippings are laid or pasted in to some volumes.
