Itineraries, 1811-1815.

Notebook, 1811-1815, outlining itineraries of several journeys between New York City and destinations in the southeastern United States, including Augusta (Ga.) and Charleston (S.C.). The itineraries give proposed routes, with some notes on the quality of the roads, ferries, and taverns and other accommodations along the route. The notebook includes a few financial notes, some notes on people Tallmadge met in South Carolina and Georgia, and two maps. One, apparently drawn in the notebook by Tallmadge, shows an alternative route out of Raleigh (N.C.) by Simsbridge, which he took on April 16, 1812, because the bridge at Louisburg was down. The other map, which is on a larger piece of paper tipped into the notebook, shows the route from Charleston (S.C.) to Port Royal, and was drawn by Jane Bacot. A printed itinerary from Detroit to Chilicothe is pasted in at the beginning.
