Papers, 1760-1793.

Papers, 1760-1793, consisting of three notebooks and a map showing his property at Nassau and John Street, New York City. One notebook, dated 1760, deals with the estate of Philip van Cortlandt's grandfather, Phillip Van Cortlandt, and his father, Stephen Van Cortlandt. It mentions properties held jointly by Stephen Van Cortlandt and his brother Pierre, and also includes some mention of the claims of Philip Van Cortlandt's own brother William. Another notebook, dealing only with the estate of Phillip Van Cortlandt, has a 1775 receipt laid in and is probably of that date. A memorandum book, 1775-1793, contains lists of debts due to Philip Van Cortlandt and notes on his confiscated property. The properties include real estate in New Jersey and New York State, in addition to money and the property in New York City.
