Diaries, 1876-1878.

Diaries, 1876 and 1878. Two volumes, May-October 1876, center round her husband's illness. They often contain entries for the same dates, and are similar but not identical. They describe his treatment, diet and the daily fluctuations in his condition, as well as his spiritual state and dreams he experienced during dangerous medical crises. There are also brief mentions of visits from family and friends. The diary from 1878, after her husband's death, describes a visit to Europe in company with her mother, Mrs. M.E. Crawford, her brother, R.L.Crawford, and his family. They crossed the Atlantic in the ship Celtic, landing in Ireland, and visited Ireland, Britain, France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Belgium, spending more time in Paris and London than elewhere. The volume includes a lengthy itinerary prepared by F.P. Freeman.
